Equality and Human Rights Commission
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is the independent statutory body established to help eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and build good relations in the UK. It is the body responsible for overseeing compliance with equal opportunities legislation, and in particular for ensuring that public bodies have strong equality schemes in place. The EHRC is itself a new public body and needed to put in place an equality scheme. The Centre was brought in to advise on developing an integrated single equality scheme which would set out an action plan for how the Commission would work on race, gender, transgender, disability, sexual orientation, age and religion.
