Course summary

A diverse organisation can draw on a wide range of views and experience, so that it is well placed to listen to, and meet, the changing needs of its staff and public. Many organisations have legal duties and performance indicators to achieve around diversity, many are concerned to develop workable strategies that will deliver change. This course will help you think through the best approach for your organisation, and introduce you to a number of tools and frameworks that can help you build a diverse workforce and serve diverse stakeholders.

Course outline

Diversity is about organisational vitality, individual choice, difference, inclusion, fairness, personal fulfilment, transparency and consultation.  This diversity training helps you understand how recent legal and social developments have increased the importance of diversity. It provides you with the tools you need to develop a practical and dynamic approach to diversity in your organisation.

Over the day you will cover:

  • how diversity differs from, and develops, equal opportunities
  • the scope and benefits of a diversity approach
  • the developing legal framework for diversity (including duties of public bodies)
  • voluntary frameworks and tools
  • diversity in recruitment and service provision
  • clarifying your diversity aims
  • developing a diversity policy
  • implementing your policy
  • monitoring and evaluating your progress

The course will provide you with a solid grounding in the law and best practice on diversity. It is highly participative, combining training sessions with case studies and group discussions.

The training course is suitable for anyone wishing to develop the effectiveness of their organisation by increasing the diversity of their staff and other stakeholders. The training will help those who need to gain an overview of the legal duties and frameworks currently used. The Centre works with people from all sectors including the public sector, voluntary sector, corporate sector and private sector.
