Management training: moving up in management - extending your management skills

(Former name: Moving up in management: building on your skills and experience)

Course summary

Often managers are in post for some years, without having any management training. They function well enough in role, and yet they may feel they have missed out on the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, and on some of the practical hints and tips around people management that would make things run more smoothly. If this sounds like you, you may be interested in our two and a half day management skills training courses for experienced managers.

Management Skills Training Courses in London

Our management skills training courses were developed as a result of feedback from those who attended our other popular management courses. It is designed for those who would not attend Moving into management because they feel they have been 'doing it' for too long already, and who find that the predominantly strategic focus of Moving from manager to leader is not quite what they are looking for.

This is first and foremost a skills-based management training course, full of tips and techniques, for those who want to focus on the practical side of the manager's role, and to share their reflections and experiences in the company of others who are in a similar situation.

Over the two days you will cover

  • managing in different organisations
  • policies and procedures for people management
  • induction, supervision and appraisal: some structures
  • managing your team
  • teams and groups
  • what makes a star team?
  • motivating people
  • introduction to motivational theory
  • different thinking and operating styles
  • you and your communication style
  • managing problem behaviour
  • managing difficult situations
  • managing your manager
  • managing yourself

After the management skills training course there is a half day follow up session to review your progress, looking particularly at any sticking points.

"Excellent course leadership, content, engagement of the group. This was easily the best course of its type that I have attended. I feel inspired. Thankyou."  JH, London Borough of Merton

"The course reassured me that as a manager without formal training, I could actually do a good job. A good balance of information and sharing experiences."  LH, BES

"The course was very good, thought provoking and interesting - most of all challenging."  SB, Atlantic Housing
