Writing skills: the basics - one day course

Course summary

If you are new to writing at work and are unsure about the basic rules of writing, or missed out on them at school, this one day writing course is for you.

We will use a combination of instruction, discussion and practical work to help increase your confidence and ability to write clear, well-structured English as well as improving your business writing skills.

Course outline

This course will serve as an excellent preparation for any future writing courses you may wish to take.  Over the day you will cover:

·         the three rules for good writing at work

·         an introduction to grammar

·         keeping it simple: writing in plain English

·         tailoring your writing for your audience

·         punctuation guidelines

·         spelling tips

·         being clear about your objectives

·         planning and structuring your work

·         checking and editing your writing

·         tips for good writing

·         a personal action plan

This course takes place at the Centre's Central London training suite with easy access to tube and mainline rail stations.

Who is this course for?

The course is suitable for anyone who lacks confidence in writing, or who wants to brush up on their skills. We will be looking at the basic tools for everyday business writing tasks such as letters, emails and record-keeping. The Centre works with people from all sectors including the public sector, voluntary sector, corporate sector and private sector.

This course will give you a good grounding in grammar, punctuation, spelling and business writing, and will help you identify your further training needs.
