Guidelines for ILM delegates
There are three courses run at the Centre which are endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). These are:
Moving into management: taking on your first management role
Moving up in management: extending your management skills
Moving from manager to leader: taking on a senior management role
The ILM has endorsed these courses as approved programmes of study and passing any of them admits delegates to student membership of the ILM.
Each of the accredited courses follows the same pattern.
First, you will attend a two day course, either at the Centre on our Open Programme or organised by your own organisation. During the two days, your trainer will give you a Candidate Handbook and run through the course requirements with you. These will include some written work and attendance at a follow up meeting about six weeks after the course.
Each course has three or four set ‘tasks' which require you to do a piece of written work to assess your understanding of the contents of the programme. These will be explained to you by the trainer for the course at some point during the initial two day course.
You then have about six weeks to complete the work. If you are taking the course on our Open Programme, you should return your work to the Centre before the follow up day for the course. If your course was organised by your own organisation, you should return your work to the designated person within that organisation, again well before the follow up day for the course.
At the follow up session, your trainer will go through your work with you and draw attention to any changes you might need to make to achieve a pass for the course. You then have about two weeks to make these changes and return the work, either to your trainer on the Open Programme or to the designated person within your organisation.
The dates for the return of your first submission, for the follow up session and for the return of your final submission will be clearly set out by your trainer during your induction session on the original two day programme.
It is very important that you adhere to these dates when taking the accredited courses. Failure to do so might result in your work not receiving a pass. The ILM also requires that the work be submitted in the format set out in the candidate handbook. It is important that you do use the handbook to submit your work as we are unable to send it on to the ILM in any other format.
