Our one-day Team leader skills course gives new and aspiring team leaders the tools, techniques and models they need to be able to put together and lead an effective team that gets the work done. All aspects of team leadership are covered including recruitment, motivating and inspiring the team, the roles and responsibilities of the team leader, communication and the common challenges that team leaders will face.

All our training courses are being delivered virtually. The webinar systems used do not require software download.

  • Course outline

    This one day Team leader skills course looks at the role of the team leader from building the perfect team through to dealing with difficult behaviour. The team leader's role in inspiring and motivating their team, in ensuring effective communication, in delegating and managing performance and in managing their own personal style to best advantage are all covered during this intensive one day course. You will leave with a better understanding of how teams work and how effective leaders manage. You will develop your confidence in using the different tools of team leadership and you will have analysed your own most effective leadership style and how to flex this when circumstances demand it. The team leader training course covers:

    Building the perfect team:

    • understanding the Belbin team roles
    • recruitment and selection
    • leading the team in the early stages

    Directing your team's work:

    • effective planning
    • stretching team and personal objectives
    • delegating to and with the team

    Inspiring and motivating your team:

    • leading with passion - making it matter
    • motivational models for managers
    • using feedback to motivate the team

    Communication and the team:

    • how does communication work?
    • barriers to communication and how to overcome them
    • pros and cons of different methods of communication
    • you as a communicator
    • communicating difficult messages

    Common challenges for team leaders:

    • interpersonal behaviour
    • managing conflict
    • underperformance in teams and individuals

    Our Team leader skills courses are for supervisors, team leaders and project managers and anyone else who wants to lead an effective, high performing team. The Centre works with people from all sectors including the public sector, voluntary sector, corporate sector and private sector.

    The Team leader skills course will help you understand the nature of teams, why they sometimes work brilliantly and why they often fail. You will gain confidence in your own leadership approach and style and know when and how to adopt different approaches when you need to. We will discuss a range of tools, techniques and models for use in building teams so that you will come away equipped to work with your team to enhance their performance and achieve their objectives.
