Matthew Lloyd Smith

History and experience

Matt is a motivating training consultant who is naturally enthusiastic about learning, training, and development. He has worked in business training and coaching both in the UK and abroad in the following places: Barcelona, Copenhagen and Lisbon.

Matt has been coaching business professionals in public speaking and presentation skills training for many years. As part of his presentation skills training/workshops, he has assisted and written business presentations for CEO’s from investment bankers and lawyers to media professionals. Matt regularly gives public speeches to audiences of all sizes and demographics.

Matt is a qualified Trinity Cert TESOL teacher who has taught business English to professionals from various industry and cultural backgrounds. He has also worked for a national newspaper in Copenhagen, writing articles and interviews in the English language. Prior to business training and coaching, he worked for over 10 years as a civil engineer in both the public and private sectors for multinational consulting civil engineering companies. Matt is an Incorporated Civil Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (IEng AMICE). As a civil engineer, he managed a number of civil and construction projects of varying financial and timescale constraints, together with managing small project teams.

Matt has personally designed, developed and delivered training courses, both face to face and virtually on the following subjects: Project management, people skills for project managers, stakeholder engagement, presentation skills and public speaking training, team building, management essentials, time management and delegation, negotiation and influencing skills, persuasive copywriting, business and report writing, meetings and minute taking, managing successful hybrid meetings and dealing with cultural diversity.

As Matt has worked abroad for a number of years in different countries with a variety of different nationalities, he has seen first-hand the importance of clear communication and maintaining audience rapport.
